Writing Prompt: When I See Red
When I see red...
I stop. Red is the color of stoplights and signs. We know immediately what red means. The color red is seen from the farthest distance which makes it the best color to signal stop. Red is the color associated with caution and danger.
An article on the Well+Good website says, “it’s widely believed that ‘seeing red’ originates from
bullfighting and the matador’s use of a red cape to deceive the bull,” says Dr.
Hafeez. “The matador beckons to the bull with a red cape, which agitates the
bull who charges for the cape.” As the term is used now, it can refer to anyone
who responds like the bull in the above scenario: becoming enraged or lashing
out in anger.”
Red is the color of...
energy, emotion, love, and friendship. Red is warm and best worn on cold
winter days. The excitement of wearing red on a windy day might bring out too
much emotion.
We often use red in Valentine's cards to show friendship or love, we like to light up the
darkened winter streets with red, green, and white lights to brighten the
season. I love to wear a red winter coat on a cold cloudy day to brighten my
spirits and bring out my energy.
Red can be spicy...
like a red pepper or playful like a little red wagon taking a toddler to the
park. Peppers can be red hot and spicy. Red peppers can liven up a meal, bring
out the fun, and burn your tongue. The color red brings out so many feelings,
senses, and inspirations.
Wear red for fun...
inspiration, energy, and playfulness. Red is an excellent color for the kitchen
to cultivate the flavors, family, warmth, and aroma of the colorful edibles the
kitchen brings to the palate.
