Nancy's writing to the prompt: I Plunge Ahead
Do you ever feel like you don’t do something good enough to share it? You see an interesting writing prompt and possibly even write something, then you safely tuck it away in your journal or Word doc. Good, no one can see it, criticize it, or be inspired by it. I can tell you that before I started writing, I could easily analyze and criticize the writing of others. Maybe there was a message, but it didn’t grab me. I’m sure they could have infused a little humor or a story. In my mind, I even criticized presentations that weren’t perfectly organized or executed even though I learned something. But when I decided to plunge ahead, share my writing, and speak in front of groups, my criticism melted away.
Some of my best work was accomplished when I decided to plunge ahead with little experience just filling a need, using my strengths, and developing new ones. I started a career center and trained graduate students when I saw a need that no one wanted to fill. I plunged ahead, developed a career center program, recruited volunteers, and helped many people who were living in crisis to find jobs. I wanted to write a career book, so I started walking and writing a blog about my observations. Then I plunged ahead and wrote the book.
After finding myself with changes, challenges, and uncertainty in my life, I decided to reinvigorate my coaching business. I will plunge ahead, up my game, and take more training. The Master Coach Certification will update my skills and give me a new certification as well as bringing back my confidence. After seeing change, trauma, and stress in my life then moving forward in a positive direction, I have more experience and empathy to share, but less confidence. Bringing new skills, connections, and colleagues into my life will give me a picture in my mind of an exciting new depth to my business with more clients next year.
When I plunge ahead it can feel a little scary at times. I test my feelings to see what they are telling me. Is it a fear from feeling certain about a future result or a fear from lack of research and information? In this case, I did the research, got the information, and I am ready to plunge ahead with a prayer in my heart not knowing where the future will take me.
